This is a community forum for the benefit of Polio Survivors in the UK and members of SPPN.
Our main purpose is to provide a safe haven for people who have been affected by Polio to share experiences and help each other cope with the challenges of living with the late effects of Polio and life in general. Please be supportive, welcoming and friendly to all users, and bear in mind that many individuals may be new to online forums or new to Post Polio Syndrome.
Our aims are to:
It is unfortunate that we do have to set out conditions of use but common sense and respect for others goes a long way.
Conditions of use:
You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use the Forums to post any material which is knowingly false or defamatory, inaccurate, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of any law. Remember that you are free to disagree with opinions but not to attack the person expressing them.
Messages which, solely, or mainly, consist of links to other sites do not encourage a proper debate and should be avoided.
Forum postings must not contain characters, images or words that would be deemed to be offensive. Some particularly offensive words are automatically replaced by the system.
You agree not to stir up trouble between other members (flame wars). Posts can and will be removed by a SPPN Forum administrator if they feel a message to be inflammatory or abusive. Member status can be suspended or removed altogether if needed.
Individual logins are required on these forums. If you are sharing a PC please be aware that if you break the rules all users of that PC may be banned from the forum under these terms and conditions.
Trade advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are not permitted. Trolls1 , flaming2 and spamming3 are forbidden. Forum moderators and administrators may block any user if it is deemed necessary. Such decisions may be appealed to the senior administrator, who will report it to the committee for discussion, whose decision is final.
You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or this site and not to make public anything which has been communicated to you privately, either on the Forum or by any other means of communication.
The SPPN Forum is a community site and not a site to post personal research and survey requests. All posts seeking people for research purposes will be withdrawn unless approved by administration prior to posting.
You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify The SPPN charity, including its staff, trustees and volunteers. We reserve the right to delete or edit any message for any or no reason whatsoever.
We reserve the right to reveal your identity to an appropriate person or authority in the event of a complaint or legal action arising from any message posted by you.
Abuse of the Forum or Messaging system will result in a permanent ban (bans are at the discretion of The SPPN).
Disclaimer:
Because of the nature of our affinity in SPPN it is natural to wish to discuss medication, orthotics and prosthetics with others. While we do not wish to discourage helpful discussion, we must urge everybody to be careful in doing this, as some medication in particular, while being suitable for one person, may be positively dangerous for others. Any members intending to use a form of medication new to them are very strongly advised to discuss it first with their doctors.
While the administrator will attempt to monitor any messages which appear to give dangerous advice, the SPPN and this Forum cannot take responsibility for the consequences arising from the use of substances or equipment advised by individuals.
Privacy:
Please be aware that some information in your forum profile may be seen by other members. The majority of people that use The SPPN Forum are unlikely to cause trouble, but previously unmanaged and unmoderated forums have reported problems.
Some of your forum profile information may be viewed by others. These items are: Username, Number of posts, Age, Date registered, Date and time last active. It is also possible to view posts made by another member, though not Personal Messages and to see usage statistics.
All other information is only available to administrators.
Complaints:
Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable or another user is behaving inappropriately is asked to contact a moderator.
We have the power to remove or edit objectionable messages and will make every effort to do so, within a reasonable time frame if we determine that removal is necessary. This is a manual process, however, so please realise that we may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately. Serious breaches will be not be tolerated and will be dealt with accordingly.
If you have any queries, please feel free to contact a moderator, we are here to help.
